Neuschwanstein Castle

Who does not know of it, who has not always wanted to visit it? No sight in Bavaria, or even in the whole of Germany, is more famous than the fairy-tale castle of King Ludwig II. Hohenschwangau Castle

King Ludwig II spent his childhood here and used Hohenschwangau  situated opposite the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle as summer residence until his death in 1886.  You can reach Schwangau from the Sonnenhof in less than an hour (59 km).  

Wieskirche (The Pilgrimage Church of Wies) 

The  Wieskirche is regarded as being one of the most beautiful pilgrimage churches throughout the world and was awarded the status of World Heritage Site in 1983. Entry is free. You can reach the church in just short of an hour from the Sonnenhof by car (Steingaden, 65 km). Ideally visited together with a trip to the king’s castles in Schwangau. 

Ettal Abbey

In the year 1330, the Benedictine monastery, Ettal Abbey, was established. The abbey looks back on an eventful history. To this day, the abbey plays an important part in exercising religion. In addition, the abbey is home to a school and a boarding school. Numerous business units such as the abbey’s own bakery, a brewery, distillery and the abbey’s own electricity generating plant guarantee the “basic services” of the abbey and make it one of the most important employers in the area.  Here you will find a highly interesting destination for your trip, one which can be ideally combined with a visit to the Linderhof Palace and rounded off by a pleasurable break in the Ettal Abbey brewery or one of the nearby inns.

Andechs Abbey

Picturesque Andechs Abbey can be seen from a great distance rising above the eastern banks of Lake Ammer and can be reached from the Sonnenhof in approximately 1 hour by car (Andechs, 60 km). The Andechs “The Holy Muntain“ is the oldest and, after Altötting, the second largest place of pilgrimage in Bavaria. The undescribably beautiful views of the 5 lakes in the area makes it quickly becomes clear to the visitor why this location was chosen in which to build the abbey. The abbey with its abbey brewery, the brewery pub, the abbey distillery and the abbey inn have attracted visitors from all over the world for more than 500 years. Would you like to know more? Lake Ammer

Straight out of a picture book. You can reach the north bank of Lake Ammer via the A96 in Stegen in about half an hour. It is immediately clear for the visitor that he or she has delved into a completely different world. Hiking, swimming, sailing or on a boat trip on a steamer on Lake Ammer: the dreamlike surroundings of the magnificent alpine panorama will enthuse every visitor. 

Landsberg am Lech

Discover the well-preserved medieval old city center of the district capital, Landsberg am Lech. A wonderful destination for a trip for shopping, strolling or simply to enjoy a delicious ice cream on the banks of the Lech. According to the German Weather Service, Landsberg is one of the sunniest cities in Germany and can be reached in about half an hour.

Zugspitze

With its height of 2,962 meters, it is Germany’s highest mountain. Very few tourists leave Germany without first visiting the mountain summit station. The view is unhindered by only a few other peaks and is in itself quite unique.
